Davis Islands is a neighborhood just south of downtown Tampa, located in the northern part of Hillsborough Bay. Some mistakenly call this area “Davis Island,” but it’s actually an archipelago made up of two islands (previously three islands before a portion of a canal was filled in to make a runway for Peter O. Knight Airport in the south of the islands). A large amount of waterfront property, beautiful views of Hillsborough Bay, and close proximity to all the conveniences and attractions of downtown have made this neighborhood a popular place for Tampa residents to settle down.

About The Davis Islands Neighborhood

The Davis Islands neighborhood is a primarily residential area with a dense suburban feel. It’s a high-end, upscale neighborhood with many luxury homes that have replaced the more modest dwellings initially constructed. Development of the islands began in the 1920s, and many of the original Mediterranean-style buildings are still standing. There are many historic homes on the islands and homes in a variety of architectural styles.

East Davis Boulevard is the business district for the neighborhood and features many small businesses and restaurants. The area is highly walkable and pet friendly. At the northernmost tip of the islands is Tampa General Hospital, the largest hospital in Tampa. Peter O. Knight Airport is located at the southern end of the islands and is used for private and recreational aviation. The neighborhood also features a number of parks, beaches, and marinas.

Davis Islands Park on the east coast of the large island has several baseball and softball fields, and nearby Roy Jenkins Pool offers spaces for patrons of all ages to swim and play. Boaters can enjoy the amenities at Marjorie Park Marina or Davis Islands Yacht Club. There are also several places on the island where you can head out to sea with a fishing charter.

When you head off the islands, you don’t have to go far to find things to do in Downtown Tampa. See a show at the Tampa Theater, a Tampa Bay Lightning game, or a concert at Amalie Arena. The nearby Florida Aquarium offers a fun, educational experience for all ages. Or you can attend an event at the Tampa Convention Center, just across the channel.
