Plant City

Plant City

When people think Plant City, they can't help but think of its rich history as a strawberry farming community. Historically, many Hillsborough County schools often closed for 3 months in the winter versus summer to coordinate with the winter growing season. Over the years, Plant City has embraced and celebrated those roots with the annual Strawberry Festival, held each Spring. Plant City was named after Henry B. Plant who's railroad allowed the city to become the winter strawberry capital of the world. Residents in Plant City will often find fresh produce stands readily available and can still find homes on large private lots. Local attractions include

The Dinosaur World Theme Park gives visitors the chance to walk among life-sized dinosaurs, interactive exhibits, and dig for fossils

The Metals & Nature Garden winds through 2 acres of statuary and original wrought ironwork.

Edward Medard Park & Reservoir featuring a 700-acre reservoir used for boating, canoeing, and fishing, 3 miles of hiking trails, a boardwalk and park, and a disc golf course.

A visit to the National Register of Historic Places will find numerous homes and buildings throughout Plant City.
